A Homecoming Session with Baby Boyd

There are some sessions that feel like coming full circle. As I drove through the familiar roads of Central Oregon - where my birth photography grew for three began before moving to Florida - I couldn't help but smile. I was heading to document baby Boyd Morningstar's newborn session, the son of my friend and a student midwife I had worked with countless times.

Coming Home to Oregon Having recently relocated to Mount Dora, Florida, this trip back to Oregon felt especially meaningful. The crisp Oregon air, the juniper trees, and those endless skies - it all brought back memories of the many births and newborns I've photographed in this beautiful state. Now, I was here to capture one more precious story.

Meeting Boyd Walking into the Morningstar family's home felt like stepping into a warm hug. Boyd, perfectly peaceful in his parents' arms, seemed to embody the serene spirit of his Oregon roots. His name, as unique and strong as the landscape around us, couldn't have been more fitting for this little one born under Central Oregon stars.

As a documentary-style photographer, I love capturing these authentic moments in a family's own space.

There's something special about returning to where you worked with so many families, to document the beginning of another family's story. While I now call Florida home and capture births and newborns across Central Florida, this session reminded me that home isn't just one place - it's wherever these moments unfold.
