(Almost) Precipitous Homebirth | Orlando, FL

Adisela called about two hours before her baby arrived, and by the time I got to her home, there were maybe 40 minutes left before she met her fourth son. She was laboring on her hands and knees, leaning over the birth ball while her husband supported her through each contraction. There wasn't any rushing around or frantic energy, even though everyone knew this baby was coming quickly. Soon after, her water broke. The birth pool was filled as fast as possible, everyone moving with the understanding that there wasn't much time before the baby would be here. Within minutes, everything was ready.

One of my favorite memories from this birth wasn't something dramatic. It was her smile. She smiled through pushing, not just once, but over and over, joy all over her face.

Fast births are often described as intense, but this one felt peaceful.

Just minutes before the birth, her mother walked through the door. Perfect timing. Then, surrounded by the people who loved her most, her son was born into his father's hands, before being lifted onto his mother's chest. The room seemed to exhale all at once.

It was simple. Beautiful.

Not long after, the older boys woke up and came in to meet their new baby brother. Watching siblings meet a new baby is always one of my favorite parts. There's something so genuine about those first sleepy little introductions. Sleepy eyes, curious smiles, tiny hands reaching in for a first touch. Those are the moments families treasure years later.

And as a birth photographer, I'm always reminded that every birth has its own rhythm. Some are long, some are fast. But every family deserves to have these moments preserved.
